Faced with floundering ratings and a stern new challenge from KQLZ-FM (Pirate Radio), KROQ-FM has hired a new general manager, Trip Reeb of San Diego’s XTRA-FM (91X), which features the same “cutting edge of rock” format pioneered at KROQ. He will take over the position in two weeks. He replaces Tony Berardini, who remains vice president of the station, as well as general manager of KROQ’s sister station in Boston, WBCN-FM. Reeb has been with 91X for a year and a half, after a stint with KAZY, an album-oriented rock station in Denver. “We just wanted someone who had an overall sense of the radio station who could be here all the time,” a KROQ spokeswoman said.
