Bill Would Require Study Before Merger

Share

A bill that would require an environmental impact study before the merger of Southern California Edison and San Diego Gas & Electric was approved Monday by a state Assembly committee.

The bill, sponsored by state Sen. Wadie P. Deddeh (D-Chula Vista) was approved with little discussion by the Assembly’s Utilities and Commerce Committee, which represents one of the last hurdles for the proposed legislation.

The measure would allow the city of San Diego, which opposes the merger, to help shape the scope of the study. No opposition from either SCE or SDG&E; was voiced Monday.
