Firefighters extinguished a 1,300-acre brush fire Monday that had burned for three days in steep Riverside County terrain, destroying three homes and injuring nine firefighters, fire officials said. Four engines and one hand crew remained at the site near San Jacinto to make sure the fire would not flare up, said Joanne Evans, spokeswoman for the California Department of Forestry. At its height, 1,009 firefighters battled the blaze, which was sparked by exhaust from a tractor and burned 1,328 acres of state land. The fire destroyed a two-story home and two mobile homes in the Silent Valley-Poppett Flat area. Damage has been estimated at about $175,000.
