A man shot three times late Saturday during an argument in Balboa Park was in good condition Sunday, police reported.

His alleged assailant, Bruce Miller, 25, is being held at County Jail downtown on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, a police spokesman said.

Sefo Ioane, 29, began arguing with Miller about 7:40 p.m. at Park Boulevard and Presidents Way, police said. Miller then pulled a pistol from his pocket and shot Ioane three times, hitting him in the stomach, arm and leg.

Ioane was taken to UCSD Medical Center, where he underwent surgery and was recovering Sunday.

Miller fled the park on foot after the shooting, but was arrested later by patrol officers, police said.

Authorities on Sunday were unsure what the two men were arguing about.

A teen-age girl was shot early Sunday in a drive-by shooting in East San Diego, police said.

The 15-year-old girl was standing with a group of friends about 2 a.m. in the 300 block of 35th Street when two Hispanic men drove by in a light blue Nissan Sentra and made gang signals with their hands, said Sgt. Tim Smith.

When the group did not respond to the signals, the passenger in the car said, “This is a drive-by shooting” and fired two shots, Smith said.

The girl was shot once in the left shoulder and taken by her friends to Physicians and Surgeons Hospital, where she was treated and released, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Police are still looking for the two men, both between 17 and 20 years old, Smith said.
