Corcoran has California’s newest maximum-security prison and now the San Joaquin Valley community is getting passenger train service for the first time in nearly two decades. Officials estimate that the prison alone will provide 10 to 15 passengers a day for the train, mainly relatives and friends coming to visit inmates. A ceremony to mark the advent of Amtrak service is scheduled Saturday at the old train station, remodeled with $80,000 in state and city funds. “It’s very representative of the growth that Corcoran is experiencing,” city Public Works Director Allyn Waggle said.
