Special to The Times

Jeff Bosley of Camarillo was well in control and on his way to his first Street Stock main event win of the season at Ventura Raceway Friday night. In control that is, until Lap 12 of the 15-lap race, when he got trapped behind slower cars and could only watch as Dave Hume of Ventura maneuvered past him and took the checkered flag.

Series points leader Charles Utts of Camarillo also got by Bosley for second place. Bosley took third.

Gary Curtis of Camarillo was the unofficial winner of the Mini Stock 20 lap main event. Track officials were checking into a potential violation at press time. Marty Desbrow of Ventura was second and Randy Bingham of Camarillo was third, also unofficially.

A pair of Camarillo drivers, Gary Curtis and Richard Webster, finished second and third.

Palmdale’s John Christensen also returned to the victory circle in the eight-lap Street Stock figure 8 main event. Christensen recorded his fourth main event win. Bosley, the figure 8 points leader, was second. Jim Firsich of Port Hueneme took third.

Mini Stock 8-lap heat race winners were Ken Hewitt of Moorpark and Gary Curtis and Richard Webster, both of Camarillo.

Street Stock heat race winners were Ventura’s Gary Garvin and Phil Barrow of Oxnard.

Trophy dash winners were Cory Kruseman of Ventura and Charles Utts of Camarillo in the Mini Stock and Street Stock divisions.

Another full program of racing gets underway tonight at 7 with the Modified Midget and Mini Sprint open-wheel cars added to a double-points, double-purse program for the Mini Stock division cars.

Fast qualifying times were turned in by Kruseman in the Mini Stock division at 18.428 and Utts in the Street Stocks at 18.235.
