SportScope : St. Bernard Swimmer Leads L.A. Lifeguards to N.Y. Win

Diane Graner, a star swimmer at St. Bernard High School and UCLA, paced the Los Angeles County ocean lifeguard team to first place in the annual All-Women Lifeguard Tournament in New York City recently. Graner won five events, as did the L.A. team, which was competing for the first time in a national competition. L.A. easily outdistanced runner-up New York Jones Beach, 126-62. Palm Beach, Fla., finished third with 50 points. About 125 women on 30 teams competed in six events during the day-long competition at the Gateway National Recreation area in Queens.
