On Oct. 1, the beach in Corona del Mar will be the site of an invitational sandcastle sculpting competition for architects, landscape architects and other affiliated professionals, sponsored by the Orange County chapter of the American Institute of Architects. The public is invited to watch the proceedings: sculpting from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., awards at 4 p.m. Winners will be chosen on the basis of originality of design, best use of site and degree of difficulty. Funds raised through entry fees and community sponsorship will support OCCAIA activities.
