A man was killed early Tuesday when he drove his car the wrong way down the Santa Ana Freeway and collided with a carload of tourists from Hawaii, injuring one of them seriously, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The man, who remains unidentified, was driving a 1988 Ford Bronco northbound in the southbound lanes of the freeway north of Euclid Street about 60 to 65 m.p.h. when he collided with the other car shortly before midnight, CHP Officer Keith Thornhill said.

The man, from Kirkland, Wash., hit a Dodge Shadow carrying four visitors from Honolulu, seriously injuring the driver, Keith Kanai Munson, 25, who was reported in serious condition at United Western Medical Center-Santa Ana, Thornhill said.
