ON THE SIDELINES : Utah Jazz Forward Defects to Italy
Marc Iavaroni, a forward with the Utah Jazz, will play basketball in Italy next season.
Iavaroni, 32, signed a one-year contract with Italian League champion Philips Milan, it was announced today by Milan’s general manager, Toni Cappellari.
No salary figure was disclosed, but club sources say Iavaroni will receive $300,000 next year to leave the NBA. The seven-year veteran will team with former three-time NBA scoring champion Bob McAdoo.
Meanwhile Messaggero Rome, which recently announced the sensational signing of Danny Ferry, the Los Angeles Clipper first-round draft choice, failed in its attempt to sign Jerome (Pooh) Richardson.
Rome’s general manager, Valerio Bianchini, said the club is still chasing longtime NBA guard Norm Nixon to fill the need for a playmaker.
