From Times staff and wire service reports

An explosion believed caused by a bomb shattered glass and blew out a door of an office at a Glendale dental clinic early today, authorities said.

Fire and police officials are continuing to investigate the explosion, which caused minor damage to several neighboring offices, a fire marshal said. Fire Marshal Chris Gray said officials were called to the Glendale Dental Center, 1220 S. Glendale Ave., about 3:30 a.m. after neighbors reported hearing an explosion. No one was inside the offices at the time.

The explosion did not result in a fire, Gray said, and no injuries were reported. Most of the estimated $5,000 in damage to the building was cosmetic, not structural, authorities said.

Investigators did not know by late this morning what kind of bomb caused the explosion. Gray said arson investigators and police believe that it was more complex than a pipe bomb. Authorities were also unsure whether the device was inside or outside the building when it exploded.

Authorities said they know of no possible motive.
