Agents for the Clippers’ two second-round draft choices said the loss of No. 1 pick Danny Ferry to the Italian Messagerro Rome team could help their clients, reasoning that--without Ferry to deal with--there is more room to negotiate within the club’s salary cap.

“I think that’s a reasonable assessment,” said Bill Strickland, who represents 6-5 guard Jay Edwards from Indiana, the 33rd player in the draft.

Kevin Scanlon, who represents 6-6 forward Jeff Martin from Murray State, the 29th pick, said: “Suffice to say I’m sure they have some room.”

However, both said talks with Clipper negotiator Andy Roesner were slow.
