Turner Launches Classroom Service: Turner Broadcasting System Inc. has debuted “CNN Newsroom,” its commercial-free daily news show for use in the classroom. By starting now, “CNN Newsroom” is getting a six-month jump on the advertiser-supported Channel One service that Whittle Communications plans to offer to schools across the country starting in March. Channel One has been banned by state officials in California and New York because of its commercial content. Other Cable networks, including C-Span and the Discovery Channel, are also planning special classroom programming.
