Rose Pushes Ump After Reds Lose
Pete Rose got into another bumping incident with an umpire Tuesday night, 16 months after his 30-day suspension for shoving umpire Dave Pallone.
The Cincinnati manager and umpire Joe West shoved each other after Tuesday night’s game in which the Reds lost, 5-2, in 12 innings to the Chicago Cubs at Riverfront Stadium.
Rose was suspended for 30 days last season by then-National League President Bart Giamatti for bumping Pallone twice and inciting the crowd.
“You saw what they did when I pushed Pallone last year,” Rose said, referring to the $10,000 fine and suspension. “Let’s see what happens now.”
The argument started in the 12th after plate umpire Bill Hohn called a ball on a pitch to Mark Grace, who later scored on Andre Dawson’s game-winning three-run homer.
