Stipulations of the four-page agreement struck between Pete Rose and Baseball Commissioner Bart Giamatti:

Rose is declared “permanently ineligible,” meaning he cannot be employed by a major league team and cannot be associated with baseball.

Rose may apply for reinstatement after one year, in accordance with baseball rule 15(c).

Rose agrees not to challenge the commissioner’s decision or the procedure used by Giamatti or any future commissioner in determining reinstatement.

There will be no hearing by the commissioner into Rose’s gambling and Rose will offer no defense.

Rose acknowledges Giamatti has factual evidence to impose the penalty and will not challenge the suspension.

Rose agrees he will not institute any legal proceedings against the commissioner or any major league club.

Nothing in the agreement shall be deemed an admission or denial by Rose that he bet on baseball.

Rose’s attorneys dismiss the lawsuit filed against Giamatti in Hamilton County Court of Common Pleas and subsequently moved to federal court in Columbus, Ohio.

Rose agrees to the jurisdiction of the commissioner’s office to investigate and act upon any matter “alleged or suspected to be not in the best interests of . . . baseball.”
