Aceves Comes Back to Stop Bejines in 10th
Mauricio Aceves of Mexico City retained his World Boxing Organization lightweight title Wednesday night, knocking out Oscar Bejines of Guadalajara late in the 10th round of a scheduled 12-round bout at the Sports Arena.
A badly battered and bloody Aceves (26-7-1) caught Bejines (35-6-2) with a left hook to the chin at 2:06 into the round. Bejines got up on a count of six but was too dazed to continue, and referee Larry Rozadilla stopped the fight.
The challenger had won each of the first nine rounds. Both fighters weighed 135 pounds.
