The Southwest : Texas A&M; Gets a Good Start, Upsets LSU, 28-16

Larry Horton returned the opening kickoff 92 yards for a touchdown, and Robert Wilson, who rushed for 121 yards in 15 carries, scored on a 20-yard run with 2:58 left to lead Texas A&M; to a 28-16 upset of seventh-ranked Louisiana State Saturday night before 61,733 fans at College Station, Tex.

Wilson’s touchdown gave the Aggies a 21-10 lead, and 15 seconds later, Kevin Smith intercepted a pass and returned it 40 yards for a 28-10 lead.

LSU’s Harvey Williams, who had predicted a 35-6 LSU victory, had 32 yards in 13 carries.

Houston 69, Nevada Las Vegas 0--Andre Ware threw five touchdown passes in the first half and ran for a score in the third quarter as the Cougars routed the Rebels at Las Vegas.

Ware completed 30 of 48 passes for 390 yards with one interception.

The Cougars, who scored on seven of their first eight possessions and blocked a punt for another score, broke a school record by rolling to a 56-0 halftime lead. The previous record was 49-0 over Idaho in 1967. It was the worst loss in the 21-year history of the UNLV football program, surpassing a 51-7 loss to Miami in 1972.
