Emmy- and Oscar-winning executive Leo Chaloukian is the new president of the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. He was elected Wednesday night by the academy’s board of governors, along with Jan Scott, first vice president; Jerry Weiss, second vice president; Susan Simons, secretary; Stu Berg, treasurer, and Walt Baker, Los Angeles-area vice president. Chaloukian, owner-president of Ryder Sound Services, has served in various capacities with both the TV academy and the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences. He will start a two-year term on Oct. 11, succeeding Doug Duitsman in the academy’s top post. Chaloukian previously served two terms as first and second vice president of the TV academy. He and his staff at Ryder have received 36 Emmy Awards (including one for “Terrorist on Trial”), 50 Emmy nominations, two Oscar nominations and an Oscar for best achievement in sound for “Platoon.”
