High School Roundup : Thousand Oaks Survives a Scare in Volleyball

Thousand Oaks High scored 10 unanswered points to erase a 12-3 deficit in the fifth game and the Lancers went on to defeat Notre Dame, 8-15, 15-7, 13-15, 15-5, 16-14, in a girls’ nonleague volleyball match Tuesday at Thousand Oaks.

Amy Chellevold had 15 kills and Debbie Bueche added 10 kills and nine blocks to lead Thousand Oaks (4-0), ranked No. 1 in the Southern Section 4-A Division poll. In the fifth game, outside hitter Ann Henige served 10 consecutive points.

Stephanie Burns had 11 kills and Kim Fischer had 20 blocks for Notre Dame (1-2).

In other girls’ volleyball matches:

Royal d. Newbury Park, 15-6, 7-15, 15-4, 15-3--Royal scored 13 consecutive points in the fourth and final game of a Marmonte League match at Royal.

Senior setter Michelle Pagan had 26 assists and senior hitter Beth Kohs served 13 points, including seven aces, to lead the Highlanders (2-0, 1-0 in league play).

Senior hitter Alison Bantel had 10 kills and five services aces for Royal. Newbury Park is 0-3, 0-1.
