Prep Roundup : Last-Second Victory for Capistrano Valley

Capistrano Valley High School defeated El Toro, 9-8, on a last-second shot by Paul Felton to win the Villa Park water polo tournament championship.

Felton, who was named the most valuable player in the tournament, had five goals in the game.

Capistrano Valley (11-0) stole the ball and counter-attacked for the winning score with one second left. El Toro’s record is 4-2.

Capistrano Valley goalie Chris Bowman had seven saves and three steals and set-man Dan Hancock had five assists.

In the semifinal game, Capistrano Valley defeated Foothill, 16-6. Felton had eight goals in that game. In the other semifinal, El Toro defeated Villa Park, 6-3.

In the seventh-place game, Edison defeated Mission Viejo, 9-2. Clint Nichols had three goals and Goalie Matt Schacht had 12 saves for Edison (3-2).

At the Canyon water polo tournament:

Canyon 5, Mater Dei 3--Canyon broke the 3-3 tie in the fourth to win it’s own tournament.

Mater Dei 12, Westminster 2--Charlie Wallace scored four goals and Scott Dereher added three to advance Mater Dei in a semifinal game.

Santa Ana Valley 13, El Modena 2--In the consolation final, Santa Ana Valley’s Jose Aguirro scored six goals to lead the Falcons.

Santa Ana Valley 10, Palm Desert 7--Marc Aguirre scored eight goals and Luis Vega had the other two for Santa Ana Valley.

Trabuco Hills 16, Rancho Alamitos 7--Bill Lenas scored nine goals to lead Trabuco Hills.
