Not even a triple play by the Montreal Expos could slow the Chicago Cubs’ playoff momentum.

The Cubs, who clinched the National League East title Tuesday, defeated the Expos, 7-2, Wednesday night despite hitting into a triple play for the second time this season.

Mike Bielecki (18-7) pitched five innings and gave up five hits to win. Jeff Pico yielded two runs in four innings of relief to get his second save.

The Expos made triple play in the second inning when Domingo Ramos lined out to shortstop Jeff Huson with Lloyd McClendon on second base and Vance Law on first. After making the catch, Huson stepped on second to double up McClendon and threw to first to get Law.

“It was great to be able to go out there and relax after clinching Tuesday night,” Bielecki said.

Philadelphia 5, New York Mets 3--Phllie pitcher Roger McDowell, who was traded by the Mets in June, relieved Jeff Parrett to face Gregg Jefferies with two outs in the ninth and got Jefferies to ground out to second to end the game.

As the out was being made, McDowell said something to Jefferies and he charged the reliever and wrestled him to the ground. Players from both benches then ran on the field and some punches were thrown before order was restored.

Before the game, Met right fielder Darryl Strawberry announced that he did not want to come back to New York after his option year in 1990, but would prefer to play on the West Coast. Strawberry did not play Wednesday night.

Pittsburgh 1, St. Louis 0--Doug Drabek pitched a four-hitter at Pittsburgh as the Pirates beat the Cardinals for the 13th time in 18 games this season.

New York Yankees 3, Boston 0--Walt Terrell threw a five-hitter for his first shutout with the Yankees, and ended the Red Sox’ six-game winning streak.

Minnesota 6, Chicago White Sox 1--Rookie Mike Dyer snapped a personal four-game losing streak with his first complete game and Dan Gladden went three for four with a home run and three RBIs at Chicago.

Cleveland 4, Seattle 1--Paul Zuellava drove in three runs and John Farrell scattered nine hits to lead the Indians at Seattle.
