Lakers Decide Not to Sign Greenwood

Share

Jerry West, the Lakers’ general manager, said Monday that the team will not sign free-agent forward David Greenwood because the former UCLA star made salary demands the Lakers can’t satisfy.

Greenwood passed a Laker physical last Friday, but West said the club will continue its search for another power forward.

West also said Monday that the Lakers talked to the Minnesota Timberwolves about trading for Rick Mahorn but were rebuffed.

“It’s a dead issue,” West said. “What we’ve offered is a great offer, but they have not accepted it.”

Meanwhile, the Lakers have yet to re-sign free-agent forward A.C. Green, although West and Green’s agent continued negotiations Monday.

The team, however, did sign rookie free agents Steve Bucknell, Melvin McCants and Milt Newton Monday. Terms were not announced.
