A man jumped in front of a moving car in an apparent suicide attempt in Canoga Park on Friday, Los Angeles police reported.

The man, described as a transient 45 to 50 years old, was taken to Northridge Hospital Medical Center, where he was in critical condition, Detective Phil Quartararo said. The man was not carrying identification, and police said they did not know his name.

The incident occurred at Fallbrook Avenue and Marlin Place at 9:30 a.m., Quartararo said. The man stepped in front of another car, which did not hit him, before he jumped in the path of the one that struck him, Quartararo said.
