Santa Margarita quarterback Trevor Yankoff threw for three touchdowns and had 195 yards passing as he completed 12 of 18 passes in a 19-0 victory over Miraleste.

Rob Johnson, El Toro High School receiver, had nine receptions for 154 yards and a touchdown in the Chargers’ 19-0 nonleague victory over Antelope Valley.

DEFENDER OF THE DAY Oscar Wilson, Santa Ana defensive tackle, had three sacks, deflected a pass that was intercepted and caused a fumble in Santa Ana’s 17-14 victory over previously unbeaten Loyola. “It was one of the best games of my career,” Wilson said.

ODDS & ENDS

Slot back Jeff Bush of Ocean View High School, playing in place of the injured Al Fanoga, caught three passes for 60 yards Friday in his first varsity game. One of his receptions was for a 27-yard touchdown in the Seahawks’ 35-9 victory over Tustin.

Sunny Hills gained 336 yards rushing in a 20-7 victory over Esperanza. Ken Overby led the Lancers with 150 yards in 15 carries, including a 60-yard touchdown. Mike Sullivan added 107 yards in 12 carries and Brian Pizula had 74 in 15 carries. The remaining five yards came on runs by quarterbacks Hakeem McKensie and Rick Orr.

Junior tailback Vance Senteno returned the opening kickoff 90 yards in the game’s first 15 seconds for Westminster’s only touchdown, but Valencia came back less than a minute later with a 45-yard scoring run by sophomore Ryan Roskelly. Valencia won, 27-7.

Santa Ana’s potent offense is rarely blanked, but the memory of two shutouts were the incentive in a 17-14 victory over Loyola. Loyola defeated Santa Ana, 27-0, last year and Mission Viejo shut out the Saints, 30-0, last week. “We felt embarrassed last week against Mission Viejo. We didn’t even score,” said quarterback Jesse Rosas.

QUOTE UNQUOTE

‘We don’t refer to that as being aggressive. That’s stupid.

--MIKE MARRUJO, Valencia coach, when asked whether he considered the 142 yards in penalties a result of his team’s aggressiveness.

‘They’ve got to run another play. They’ve got to run another play. They’ve got to run another play. They’ve got to run another play.’

--STEVE NISHIMOTO, Fullerton coach, his team with no timeouts left and down, 9-3, to Western with a half a minute remaining in the game. On fourth down, Western ran out the clock.
