SOUTHLAND : Fire Causes $1.5-Million in Damage
Fire roared through a row of four businesses in South Gate early today, causing an estimated $1.5 million damage before it was controlled by 17 fire companies, authorities said.
The fire in the complex in the 12000 block of South Garfield Avenue was reported at 4:46 a.m., Los Angeles County Fire Department dispatcher Lawrence Beals said.
The firefighters battled the blaze for more than an hour before it was extinguished at 5:53 a.m., he said.
Two firefighters suffered minor injuries, he said.
The cause of the blaze was under investigation.
