THE SIDELINES : Broken Rib Idles Pistons’ Johnson
Detroit Pistons guard Vinnie Johnson will be sidelined for 10 to 14 days with a broken rib.
Johnson was injured when he tripped over a charging John Salley in Friday’s practice at the University of Windsor across the Detroit River from Detroit. He was held out of Saturday’s scrimmage, and X-rays Saturday night revealed a fractured left rib.
“I just remember landing on Salley’s foot and the pain being very severe from the very beginning,” Johnson said Sunday. “I can’t raise my left arm at all. I can’t sneeze without being in pain. I can’t run because I’m unable to breathe very hard.”
Trainer Mike Abdenour said Johnson would be out for at least 10 days, eliminating him from at least the first three Pistons’ exhibition games. He is expected to be ready for the season opener Nov. 3.
