P.M. BRIEFING : Agassi Defeated in Hong Kong
Haiti’s Ronald Agenor upset second-seed Andre Agassi 6-3, 6-2 in the opening round of the Hong Kong Tennis Championships today.
Agenor, who arrived from Paris just two hours before his match, took just over an hour to beat the 19-year-old Agassi, ranked fifth in the world. It was the Haitian’s third win over Agassi in as many matches, dating to 1987.
The defeat for Agassi came only days after he won his first tournament of the year in Orlando, Fla.
Agenor joins U.S. Open semifinalist Aaron Krickstein in the second round of the 16-player exhibition tournament.
