GARDEN GROVE —
Bolsa Grande High School took advantage of early Garden Grove mistakes and went on to a 17-0 victory in a Garden Grove League football game Thursday.
Garden Grove had five turnovers, including two in the first quarter that helped Bolsa Grande (3-3 overall, 2-1 in league play) to a quick lead.
The Argonauts fumbled the ball on their 25 and it was recovered by David Jimenez with 5:56 left in the quarter.
Three plays later, Tim Desrosiers ran off left tackle for 16 yards and a touchdown. Sonny Nguyen kicked the extra point and Bolsa Grande led, 7-0.
On the next drive, a third-down pass by Garden Grove’s Bob Ioja was intercepted by Marcus Wilson and returned to the Garden Grove 26.
Bolsa Grande quarterback Nguyen followed with completions of 12 and 11 yards to Trent Wood to move the ball to the three. One play later, Carlos Torres scored on a two-yard run on the last play of the quarter. Nguyen added the extra point and Bolsa Grande led, 14-0.
Nguyen kicked a 36-yard field goal with 3:25 left in the third quarter to complete the scoring.
Garden Grove’s Alex Ripley led all runners with 70 yards in 11 carries, including a 31-yard run in the third quarter. A personal foul after that run moved the ball to the Bolsa Grande 31, and Garden Grove (3-3, 1-2) eventually drove to the 20 before fumbling again, with Jimenez again recovering the ball.
