Boy, 5, Dies After Being Thrown From Horse
A 5-year-old boy was killed Sunday when he and his father were thrown from a horse on a Dexter Park trail in Kagel Canyon, authorities said.
The boy, identified as Ryan Garland of Acton, was taken by helicopter to Childrens Hospital in Los Angeles immediately after the noon accident, said Capt. Don Lassig of the Los Angeles County Fire Department. The boy died a short time later of massive head injuries, Lassig said.
The boy’s father, Robert Garland, 32, was not injured. Lassig said it was not known what caused the accident.
