Darrin Nelson Decides to Sit Out
Running back Darrin Nelson, one of five players obtained from the Minnesota Vikings in the trade for Herschel Walker, decided Sunday not to play for the Dallas Cowboys.
The Cowboys announced that Nelson, an eight-year veteran, had decided to go back to Minneapolis and not play this year.
Nelson’s salary with the Vikings was $500,000.
Dallas will activate one of its conditional draft picks--a second-round choice in either 1990 or 1991.
Nelson, who attended Dallas’ practice Friday, said: “It’s nothing against Dallas, but I just may decide to stay in Minneapolis where my wife has a good law practice. That’s where my family is and I may just decide not to play the rest of the year.”
The Cowboys made the announcement of Nelson’s decision shortly before the kickoff of their game against San Francisco. Nelson was not scheduled to play.
