Countywide : Fog Predicted to Set In Again Today
Dense fog, which forced the closure of the John Wayne Airport for landings from about 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. Tuesday, will continue to plague coastal communities in Orange County today.
But the worst will soon be over, said Rick Dittmann, a meteorologist with WeatherData, the firm that supplies weather information for The Times.
Dittmann said the fog was caused by a high pressure system over the West and weak lower pressures off Baja California. He said weather patterns will change later this week when a low pressure system from the Gulf of Alaska moves south. The marine layer will expand into inland areas, making the fog less dense, he said.
Jan Mittermeier, assistant airport manager, said she could not say how many incoming flights were blocked by the fog. Planes were allowed to take off.
