ROUNDUP : Laguna Beach Remains Undefeated in Girls’ Volleyball

Sara Nelson had 12 kills, leading undefeated Laguna Beach High School to a 15-4, 15-8, 15-12 victory over host Woodbridge in a Pacific Coast League girls’ volleyball match Wednesday.

Keali Clark had 10 kills for Laguna Beach, which improved to 10-0 overall, 5-0 in league play.

Laguna Beach, ranked fourth in the latest Southern Section 5-A division poll, has lost only one game this season.

In Academy League girls’ volleyball:

Newport Christian 3, Heritage 0--Wendie Bahnsen had six aces and two kills, and Tera Walker had five aces and three kills as host Newport Christian (10-1, 4-0) won, 15-1, 15-6, 15-5.

In Angelus League girls’ tennis:

Rosary 15, Bishop Amat 3--Joyce Cruz swept her sets, 6-0, 6-0, 6-0, to lead visiting Rosary (13-2, 5-1).

In Freeway League girls’ tennis:

Fullerton 10, Sonora 8--Loraine Lau swept her sets at love to lead visiting Fullerton.

In nonleague girls’ tennis:

Corona del Mar 16, Santa Barbara 2--Led by No. 1 singles player Keri Phebus, host Corona del Mar defeated Santa Barbara. Phebus didn’t lose a game in three sets for Corona del Mar (15-1).

Marina 9, Los Alamitos 9 (Marina won on games, 77-75)--Host Marina was led by No. 1 singles player Tracy Krisell, who swept her sets, 6-3, 6-2, 6-0. Krisell is 43-4 this season.

In Empire League water polo:

El Dorado 30, Katella 3--El Dorado scored 10 in the first quarter and 11 in the second to lead 21-2 at halftime. Matt McLear had eight goals to lead visiting El Dorado (14-3, 3-0).

Foothill 21, Santa Ana Valley 5--Zach Holder had five goals, and Mark Delvaux and Colin Crosby each had three to lead Foothill (11-5, 3-0) at Santa Ana Valley (10-10, 1-2).

Esperanza 14, Cypress 3--Josh Hetland had five goals to lead host Esperanza (18-6, 2-1). Mark Campagna added three goals for the Aztecs.

In Orange League water polo:

Brea-Olinda 6, Valencia 5--Kyle Kilpatrick had three goals and drew four kick-outs and Matt Priess had 14 saves for host Brea (13-7, 4-1).

In Pacific Coast League water polo:

Orange 14, Costa Mesa 11--Clay Kaytis and Matt Maresh each had four goals to lead visiting Costa Mesa (12-7, 3-0).

In Sea View League water polo:

University 9, Saddleback 6--Greg Krogen scored four goals to lead host University (7-7, 1-2). Tom Cummings and Shad Wicker each had two goals for the Trojans.

Corona del Mar 10, Tustin 4--Brandon Howald had four goals, and Ryan Weir and Gunnar Gustafson each had two for visiting Corona del Mar (17-0, 3-0).

In a South Coast League boys’ cross-country meet, Daniel Niednagel led Dana Hills to a 15-48 victory over Irvine. Niednagel finished the three-mile course in 16 minutes 2 seconds. Dana Hills is 3-2 in the league.

In another South Coast League boys’ cross-country meet, Mike Farrell and Alex Obradovic finished 1-2 to lead San Clemente over Mission Viejo, 17-46, at Laguna Niguel Regional Park. Farrell finished in 15:53 and Obradovic ran 15:54. San Clemente is 5-0 in the league.
