COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Cal State Fullerton Loses to Fresno State in Soccer, 3-0
With three goals in the second half, Fresno State defeated Cal State Fullerton, 3-0, Sunday in a Big West Conference soccer match in front of about 2,000 in Fresno.
The Titans (12-7-1 overall, 6-3-1 in the conference) only managed two shots on goal against the Bulldogs (16-2-3, 10-0), who received the conference’s automatic bid to the National Collegiate Athletic Assn. playoffs. Fullerton finished second. At-large playoff spots will be announced today.
In nonconference men’s soccer:
UC Irvine 4, USC 1--Vemmer Van Globick of USC scored first, but Irvine (3-15-1) closed its season with a victory at home. Darren Bedolla and Gerald Slater scored in the first half, and John Gunderson and John McIntyre scored late in the second.
In Big West Conference water polo:
UC Irvine 12, Pacific 8--Dan Smoot scored four goals, three in the first half, as Irvine (21-5, 5-1) built a 7-3 lead at halftime.
