GOLF : Hammond Leads by 3 Strokes
Even a mediocre day is a good day when you’re hot, and Donnie Hammond is very hot.
The 32-year-old Hammond shot a five-under-par 67 Thursday in the second round of the $650,000 Kapalua International golf tournament for a two-day total of 131.
Hammond has a three-shot lead over Craig Stadler, who shot 64 for a total of 134. Steve Pate and Robert Wrenn are another shot back.
Hammond, of Longwood, Fla., has earned $294,400 in the last month by winning the Texas Open, finishing second in the Disney tournament and fifth in the Nabisco Championships.
“He’s played as well as anybody in the world for the past month,” Wrenn said. “I guess 67 is kind of a mediocre round for him.”
