RALLY: The Rev. Jesse Jackson, Lt. Gov. Leo McCarthy and others will speak at a Pro-Choice rally today, sponsored by the Greater Los Angeles Coalition for Reproductive Freedom in Rancho Park.
CHILD CARE: The California Assembly ways and means subcommittee on health and welfare holds a public hearing Monday about the child care needs of the refugee communities of Los Angeles at Plummer Park in West Hollywood.
MINING OPERATION: The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Forest Service holds a public meeting Monday, to receive comments on a proposal to develop a mining operation in Soledad Canyon.
HILLSIDE ORDINANCE: Strict new controls on hillside development will be discussed by the Sierra Madre City Council Tuesday. If approved, the ordinance would allow only one house per 40 acres above an altitude of 1,200 feet. Below 1,200 feet, the limit would range between one house per 5 acres and one house per 40 acres.
SEWAGE: Free bus ride from the Malibu Civic Center to the California Coastal Commission meeting Tuesday. Sponsored by representatives from Save Our Coast who will attend to protest the county’s plan to discharge more sewage into the Santa Monica Bay.
UNCORKING WASPS: Small vials containing tiny wasps will be released beneath the branches of whitefly-infested ash trees at the Balboa Sports Center in Encino on Friday.
