A North Hollywood man remained in custody Sunday on suspicion of fatally stabbing his common-law wife, police said.

Florentino Nantes, 21, was arrested on suspicion of murder Saturday after 22-year-old Adriana Pino was found dead of multiple stab wounds in a house the couple shared in the 11000 block of Califa Street, said Los Angeles Police Detective Mike Coffey. He said Pino was Nantes’ common-law wife and the mother of his 2-year-old son.

Pino went out Friday night and returned about 6 a.m. Saturday, Coffey said.

Pino’s brother and sister-in-law, who also lived in the house, did not hear any arguments between Nates and Pino and left about 8 a.m. When they returned at noon, they found the victim’s body and called police.

Officers arrested Nantes as he was collecting his paycheck and resigning from his job at May Co. in North Hollywood, Coffey said.

Nantes was being held without bail in the North Hollywood jail. The couple’s son was taken into protective custody by the county Department of Children’s Services, the detective said.
