An associate of the underboss of a Los Angeles organized crime family was convicted today of shooting a former Orange County topless bar owner who was left blinded by the 1987 attack.
Joseph Grosso, 46, appeared saddened as he heard the verdicts in Orange County Superior Court in Santa Ana. After a week of deliberations, the jury found Grosso guilty of attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder and mayhem stemming from the May, 1987, attack on William Carroll in a Costa Mesa parking garage.
Grosso is scheduled to be sentenced Dec. 12, when he faces a maximum penalty of 25 years to life in prison.
He was found to have conspired with Michael Rizzitello Jr., the reputed head of the Milano crime organization, to kill Carroll in order to take control of Carroll’s Mustang Club in Santa Ana.
