Jockey Close to Record for Most Winners
Kent Desormeaux, North America’s leading jockey for winners in a single year, inched closer Thursday to establishing a new world record with three victories.
Desormeaux now has 530 wins this year, 16 shy of Chris McCarron’s mark of 546 set in 1974.
Desormeaux captured the third race astride Sugar Guy, $4.80; the sixth aboard Financial Problem, $5, and the eighth on Show Sum Respect, $4.
In the featured $21,000 Love Sign purse, Sweet Bunny romped to an eight-length win under apprentice Michael Luzzi. Desormeaux’s mount, Polished Approach, the favorite in the field of 3-year-old fillies, finished fourth.
