HUNTINGTON BEACH : $25,000 Fund Goal Set for Grad Night

A parents’ group at Huntington Beach has set a $25,000 fund-raising goal for the school’s second annual Grad Night.

Alison Barsh, a parent who is an executive panel member of the high school’s Grad Night Committee, announced this week that Grad Night II will be held June 14 for 1990 graduating seniors.

Grad Night celebrations are all-night, drug- and alcohol-free parties staged at high schools on the evening of graduation exercises. Parents work throughout the year to raise money for entertainment and elaborate decorations.

More than half the high schools in Orange County have grad nights, according to the nonprofit Grad Night Foundation, based in Costa Mesa.

Huntington Beach High held its first Grad Night last June, raising about $25,000 for the inaugural event.

“We hope to raise about that same amount of money for the 1990 Grad Night,” said Barsh. “Most of the money comes from ticket sales to the seniors, but we also depend on donations, both in cash and prizes, from the businesses and companies in Huntington Beach.”

Barsh said tickets, which cost $45 per student if purchased early, go on sale Feb. 1. The theme of the 1990 Grad Night will be “Treasure Island,” she said.
