A newborn boy dubbed “Adam” is in good condition at UCI Medical Center today after he was found abandoned near a trash can by police investigating a stabbing on a Santa Ana street.

The unclothed baby, believed to be about four hours old, had turned blue and was gasping for air when Santa Ana Police Officer Michael Buelna found him just before midnight Tuesday.

Buelna performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation on the infant, who was rushed to UCI Medical Center in Orange suffering from hypothermia, hospital officials said.

Buelna had been called to an apartment in the 1200 block of Brooks Street to investigate a stabbing when a neighbor approached the officer and told him she had heard a baby crying nearby. No one was seriously wounded in the stabbing.

The baby is believed to have been born prematurely, weighs just over 4 pounds and has brown hair and brown eyes, said hospital spokeswoman Elaine Beno.
