The 1989 editions of college football’s fiercest rivalry of the decade and a made-for-television curiosity that blossomed into one of golf’s most attractive events highlight this weekend’s sports television fare.

Top-ranked Notre Dame visits seventh-ranked Miami at 3:30 p.m. today on Channels 2 and 8. The Fighting Irish have won a school-record 23 consecutive games, and a win today would mean Notre Dame’s expected Orange Bowl invitation to face No. 2 Colorado would be for the national championship. However, the Hurricanes could well spoil those plans. Miami holds a 5-3 edge in the series this decade, has not lost to Notre Dame in Miami since 1977, and is seeking revenge for last season’s 31-30 loss, which deprived the Hurricanes of the national championship.

Jack Nicklaus, Lee Trevino, Ray Floyd and Curtis Strange shoot for $450,000 in the Skins Game at 12:30 p.m. today and Sunday at 4 p.m. on Channels 4, 36 and 39. The Skins Game could be the last NBC broadcast for Vin Scully, whose contract is expiring.

The Lakers will be on Channel 9 at 6:30 tonight against the Utah Jazz, and on Prime Ticket Sunday at 7:30 p.m. against the San Antonio Spurs. The Spurs are the only team to defeat the Lakers this season. Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls make one of two local appearances of the season Sunday, with SportsChannel carrying the 7:30 p.m. game against the Clippers.

The Rams, whose two-game winning streak have put them back into the hunt for a playoff berth, have a chance to avenge their 40-21 loss to New Orleans, Sunday at 5 p.m. on Channel 11 and ESPN.
