THE SIDELINES : Patriots Coach to Be Rehired

MYSTIC, Conn. — New England Patriots’ owner Victor Kiam said today he plans to extend coach Raymond Berry’s contract despite the team’s 4-8 record and the team’s worst start since 1981.

“Berry is a very good coach and he’s staying,” Kiam told Associated Press Sports Editors at their Northeast regional meeting. “I have every intention of extending Raymond Berry’s contract.”
