THE SIDELINES : ESPN to Televise 171 Ballgames

BRISTOL, Conn. —
ESPN, which begins a $400-million, four-year contract to televise major-league baseball next season, announced today that it will televise 171 games in 1990.
The network is scheduled to begin its coverage on opening day, April 2, with Kansas City’s game at Baltimore. It will then pick up the the game between the San Diego Padres and the Los Angeles Dodgers in progress.
ESPN will show single games on Wednesday and Sunday nights and double-headers on Tuesdays and Fridays.
