The most dramatic, memorable and historic moment among this weekend’s sports television viewing fare won’t take place at a stadium or arena, but from the sedate Heisman Room of the Downtown Athletic Club in New York City.

The most wide open race in the Heisman Trophy’s 55-year history will come to a conclusion between 2:30 and 3 p.m. today when CBS (Channels 2 and 8) televises the presentation for the fourth consecutive year.

The weekend’s most watched on-the-field event figures to be Sunday’s Rams-Dallas Cowboys mismatch at 10 a.m. on Channels 2 and 8. The once-proud Cowboys’ 1-11 record is the worst in the National Football League.

The hordes of former New Yorkers now living in Southern California will have two chances to see their former hometown teams take on their new hometown teams. The New York Rangers, the surprise early season leaders of the National Hockey League’s Patrick Division, take on Wayne Gretzky and the Kings at 7:30 p.m. tonight on Prime Ticket. The bicoastal double-header concludes Sunday at 7:30 p.m. on Prime Ticket with the New York Knicks meeting the Lakers.
