AQMD Breaks Ground for $46-Million Facility

Share

Officials of the South Coast Air Quality Management District broke ground this week in Diamond Bar for a new $46-million headquarters that chairman Norton Younglove promised will be “environmentally sensitive.”

Also this week, Assembly Speaker Willie Brown (D-San Francisco) reappointed USC political science professor and clean air activist Larry L. Berg to the AQMD governing board. But Berg, who has served since 1983, said he may not complete the term, adding: “I can’t predict my life for four years.”

In another move affecting the AQMD, Baldwin Park Mayor Leo King stepped down from the board. King, who said he and his wife are moving to Oklahoma for family reasons, also resigned as Baldwin Park’s mayor.
