In other Simi Valley tournament first-round games:

Ventura 73, Poly 49--The Cougars outscored the Parrots, 47-19, in the second and third periods to coast to victory under first-year Coach Dan Larson, a former Ventura player.

Simi Valley 88, Mark Keppel 48--Forward Kenny Hood scored 21 points and center Mike Wawryk added 18 to lead the Pioneers. Simi Valley outscored the Aztecs, 43-22, in the first half as reserve center Mike Baity scored 13 points in a balanced Pioneer attack.

Capistrano Valley 63, Kennedy 60 (OT)--Chris Kostoff’s three-pointer with two seconds left in overtime enabled Capistrano Valley to overcome a 41-point effort by Kennedy’s Garret Anderson.

Royal 75, Glendale 56--Royal forward Russell Myers scored 24 points and reserves Kevin Hambley and Chris Moriarty had 12 and 10, respectively. Royal took a 10-point lead at the end of the first quarter and never trailed, increasing its advantage to 29 in the third period.

Granada Hills 56, Thousand Oaks 54--Jermoine Brantley hit a long jumper with less than 30 seconds remaining to secure the victory. The Highlanders trailed by 10 after the first quarter and for most of the game before rallying in the final quarter.

SAUGUS TOURNAMENT

San Fernando 60, Canyon 51--Russell Baldwin, a 6-4 senior center who missed last season because of academic ineligibility, scored 15 points and had 12 rebounds to lead San Fernando past Canyon in the first round. San Fernando meets Antelope Valley in today’s semifinals.

San Fernando forward Errol Garnett led all scorers with 19. Center David Wiggins topped Canyon with 12.
