PREP ROUNDUP : Marina Defeats Mission Viejo in Girls’ Basketball

Milisa Sortino made four three-point field goals and scored 29 points to lead Marina High School to a 67-62 girls’ basketball victory over Mission Viejo in the opening game for both teams at Marina.

The Vikings led by 13 points at halftime. But Mission Viejo outscored Marina, 22-9, in the third quarter.

Marina trailed late in the game, but outscored Mission Viejo, 10-2, in the final three minutes.

Christa Yorke scored 16 points for the Vikings.

Jennifer Rohrig scored 30 points for Mission Viejo.

In the Irvine tournament:

Brea-Olinda 66, Cypress 34--Cathy Lewis scored 13 points and Jinelle Williams 12 for Brea (2-0) in a second-round game at Irvine. Tammy Blackburn scored 11 and Aimee McDaniel 10 for the Wildcats.

El Toro 69, University 35--Sara Bone scored 21 points, Karie Yoshioka had 19 points, seven assists and seven steals and Danielle Silva 18 points and 11 rebounds for the Chargers at University.

La Quinta 60, Costa Mesa 32--Amy Jalewalia had 28 points, nine rebounds and seven steals for La Quinta (1-0) in a second-round game at Woodbridge High. Heather Brannan had 14 points and seven rebounds and Tanya Krill 14 points and eight rebounds for the Aztecs.

San Clemente 62, Orange 31--Kristin McOwen had 13 points and seven rebounds and Wendy Stewart had 11 points, seven blocked shots, five assists and five steals to led the Tritons at Irvine High.

In nonleague girls’ basketball:

St. Margaret’s 30, Buckley 12--Griselda Subias scored 14 points to lead host St. Margaret’s.

In the first round of the Irvine boys’ soccer tournament:

Foothill 3, Wesminister 0--Eric Fukuda scored two goals and goalkeeper Lance Anderson had four saves for Foothill (2-0). The Knights advanced to the second round at 3 p.m. Monday against El Toro.

San Clemente 2, Woodbridge 2 (San Clemente advances on penalty kicks, 4-1)--John Handal, Gustavo Flores, Sonny Martinez and Robert Proctor scored on penalty kicks to give San Clemente the victory.

Corona del Mar 4, Laguna Beach 1--Chris Smith scored two goals to lead the Sea Kings (2-0). Justin Pierce and Chad Smith also scored goals for Corona del Mar.

In the Brea-Olinda tournament:

Katella 1, Sunny Hills 1 (Katella advances on penalty kicks, 4-3)--Shawn Kailey scored the final penalty kick to lead Katella into the second round next Saturday.

Edison 2, Troy 0--Darin Courter scored both of the Chargers’ goals.

La Habra 1, Mission Viejo 0--David Kraba scored the Highlanders’ only goal in the second half.

Brea-Olinda 2, Sonora 1--All the scoring took place in the first half as Matt Rutledge and Marco Hernandez scored for Brea. Ehab Matar scored Sorora’s only goal.

Huntington Beach 51, Loara 50--Lisa Nakazono of Loara missed two free throws with two seconds remaining in a consolation bracket game. Jennifer Leonard and Tracy Titus led Loara with 15 points each.
