Share

Operation Santa Claus, sponsored by the county Social Services Agency, is now under way to benefit the less fortunate in Orange County.

The nonprofit program serves children in various foster homes throughout the county, including the Orangewood home for abused or neglected children.

The county Fire Department and Sheriff’s Department are major supporters of the program, and this year the Sheriff’s Department is concentrating on collecting gifts for teen-agers.

Various Orange County schools also donate money each year that is raised by students. And businesses may participate by having “angel trees,” from which employees select tags and donate gifts for the identified children.

On Dec. 17, the Los Angeles Rams will hold an Operation Santa Claus Toy Drive before their game with the New York Jets. People attending the game will be asked to bring a new and unwrapped toy.

Those interested in donating may send checks to Operation Santa Claus, c/o SSA Volunteer Services, 14400 E. 1st St., Santa Ana, Calif. 92701 or call (714) 586-4453.
