Boris Becker and Steffi Graf were selected as world champions by the International Tennis Federation, which followed the rankings in the women’s award but gave extra weight to major-event victories in the men’s.
Becker, rated second in the world on computer points, was chosen for the men’s title over No. 1-ranked Ivan Lendl, whom he beat in both of their meetings this year.
