4 Dogs Poisoned in Burbank Back Yard

Four Rottweiler dogs were found dead in a Burbank yard from apparently intentional poisoning, Burbank police reported Wednesday.

“We’re quite certain that they were given some sort of food that contained poison or some kind of lethal substance that caused their deaths,” Sgt. Don Goldberg said.

Detectives are investigating whether the poisoner lives nearby, he said. The yard is enclosed by a six-foot fence, he said.

The Los Angeles County Department of Comparative Medical and Veterinary Services plans to perform autopsies on the dogs today or Friday, said Dr. C. Patrick Ryan, the department’s director.

The dogs’ owner returned home about 9 p.m. Tuesday to find the pets dead in his yard, in the 3200 block of West Alameda Avenue, Goldberg said. He told police the dogs were in excellent health when he left the house about 5 p.m., Goldberg said.

The dogs included two female adults, a male adult and a female puppy, Goldberg said.
